Avoid Being Impulsive

When problems arise, it’s natural to want to jump to a solution as quickly as possible – especially if the problem in question is disrupting business processes or perhaps putting orders on hold. However, jumping to a quick fix or solution may not do your business any favors in the long run, and it may not actually fix the problem in the best way.

Take your time to analyze the situation and find as much information and clarity as you can. It’s much better to take longer to find the correct solution, as you risk further problems or delays if you hastily settle on an inefficient solution.

Explore All Manner of Solutions

One problem does not necessarily mean one solution, and even if you do find a suitable solution, there is no harm in exploring further for alternative options. Broadening the scope when it comes to solutions will help you to better understand all the factors that may be contributing to the problem, and which will be the most beneficial to tackle first. Finding a solution is what you’re aiming for, but that doesn’t mean that the task is done. You shouldn’t just forget about an issue and move on after identifying a solution. You should always monitor the situation in an ongoing capacity and return to it to check how that your solution has put the problem to bed.

It may be that unexpected side effects have arisen from the solution you put in place, or another problem may have arisen as a result. It may be that, despite careful planning, your solution hasn’t actually worked out the way you intended, or perhaps not had any effect at all.

The only way to know is to monitor the problem until you’re satisfied that it is completely resolved.
